" AN ANNUAL OR A PERENNIAL
"
" THE PLANTING OF THE LORD - THE GARDEN OF
GOD "
-------------------------
We have come to understand that this world as we
know it could be compared to the garden of God. With that thought in mind, consider all
men to be plants in such a garden. The plants are of so many different kinds. Even those
of the same kind do not always appear the same. Every plant differs from another and has
it's own special characteristics and needs. The garden does not have only plants in it but
it is only the plants we are focusing on at the moment.
All plants have been placed or planted in this
garden. They have not all been put in the garden by the same source. God indeed did create
all men, but not all of what God had created are considered His. Those who have
turned away from Him are not His. So all of the plants in His garden are not His. The
plants either belong to the kingdom of God or the devil. In other words, they are
either plants or weeds.
In this analysis we will be considering another
idea. These two types of plants are either annuals or perennials. I am considering the
unbelievers to be the annuals, and the perennials to be the believers. Of course there are
different degrees of the two types. There are just regular annuals and then there are
hardy annuals just as there are tender perennials and there are hardy perennials.
The point that we all need to understand is very
simple. Annuals do not and can not last as do perennials. Should they be cut down
prematurely, they immediately die. When storms come, they become beaten usually to the
point that they die. No matter what the case, what ever trouble comes their way; they do
no have what a perennial has.
The life of the plant is in the root. Even though
the visible portion of the plant has been destroyed, it's life has not been prevented from
continuing. Only with the root which provides life can the plant live. Every thing the
plant needs and desires must in one way or another come from the root. Other parts of the
plant have an affect on the plants survival but without the proper root, it is all vanity.
Some plants do manage to survive in the dark for a period of time.
Now, if all men are as plants, we as children of
God, are to be that which Adam was so many years ago. His purpose was to care for the
garden. We are to look after God's garden. In season, when God provides us an opportunity
to be of help to another when in need, or out of season, when we choose to make an
occasion to do that which would help another in one way or another. Our sole purpose in
this world is not to get caught up in the cares of this world as others do, instead, God
would have us to constantly and always be in submission to Him that we may be able to do
his work while it is day, which is bringing to every person, that which he is in need of.
We are the servants of God doing His will and not our own.
I personally thank God that I am not an annual any
longer, that I have died and have become a perennial. As an annual, my life was only
tentative, here today and gone tomorrow. Always being affected by circumstances and never
being able to last long enough, or for ever. As a perennial, I know where and what my root
is and knowing that; prevents any thing from altering my destiny.
I have been freely given life because of my root,
and I trust in my root for my life. It doesn't matter what may come my way, what type of
storm or trouble. My strength comes from my root and even though I might appear to be
beaten, what can't be seen is life in the process of being renewed.
Thank You, Jesus! for allowing me to
see that You want us to know that our sole purpose here is to glorify You by allowing You
to work through us that we might reach out and touch all those that have reached out to
You; that You might give them exactly what they need when they need it according to Your
promises. Lord, please help me that I might always anxiously await every
opportunity to help another and be of service to him while I never step on another or
disregard another while doing what is expected of me.
Please, today, willingly accept the
assignment the Lord is giving you by being the pruning shears in His hands, by being the
water hose in His hands, by being the one to provide the fertilizer or nourishment in the
proper amounts at His direction.
Remember that His garden is Dear to Him and He
treasures every thing in it even as each and every part's purpose and needs, only He
knows.
