THE DIFFERENCE   IS THE PAY RATE

After I had finished pumping the gas into the tank, I went inside to pay the amount that I owed. Two cashiers were on duty, but the cashier that waited on me was not able to complete the transaction, so the other cashier stopped waiting on the other customer to take care of my bill. I turned to the other man who was being waited on by the cashier who was now waiting on me, & I said to him: "It was not my intention to cause you to have to wait"; to which he replied: "It doesn't matter that much, I get paid by the hour". I, in turn, told him: "I wasn't in such a big hurry either, that this needed to happen, because I get paid by the job. I do not get paid until the job is finished".

With this true life experience in mind, I began to reflect upon and listen to, The Word of God. I meditated deeply and the parable of the vineyard owner came to my mind.

For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire laborers into his vineyard. & when he had agreed with the laborers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard. & he went out about the third hour, & saw others standing idle in the marketplace, & said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, & whatsoever is right I will give you. & they went their way. Again he went out about the sixth & ninth hour, & did likewise. & about the eleventh hour he went out, & found others standing idle, & saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; & whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive. So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the laborers, & give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. & when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; & they likewise received every man a penny. & when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house, Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, & thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden & heat of the day. But he answered one of them, & said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny? Take that thine is, & go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee. Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good? So the last shall be first, & the first last: for many be called, but few chosen. [Matthew 20:1-16] But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat? & will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, & gird thyself, & serve me, till I have eaten & drunken; & afterward thou shalt eat & drink?

Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not. So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do. [Luke 17:7-10]

I realize that there are many hirelings in this world. Many might worry about how long and hard they are having to work in regards to what they are being paid or what the outcome of their efforts appears to be. The truth of the matter is revealed by their speech and their actions. What about all those who tirelessly work, regardless of what they are confronted with, never complaining about any task assigned them, rather, they continue working with joy in their soul, knowing that when the job is done, when all the work is completed, they will receive that which is due to them. Who is he that is concerned about the benefits he will receive in this life? Who is he that is concerned about how long or what he will have to do before the job is completed? How much time elapsed from the time the work started until all the work was completed? Who is he that was the best servant of all those who served?

Are you serving the Lord as an hourly worker, constantly considering the plusses and minuses which the job might contain; or are you one of His faithful servants, always doing your best, never drawing back by not doing the best which you are capable of, regardless of the load you might be required to bear, all the while, Praising God for the privilege to have been honored with the responsibility of a job well done, & the stamina to see to the finish of all the work that He assigned you to do.

It now no longer matters to me, when I started serving The Lord, all that matters is, that He has assigned me a job to do [what benefits I might receive of Him in the meantime are meant to be used by me to be incorporated into my work for Him]; and I will all the while trust in Him, that when I have finished all that He has assigned me to do, I will receive my pay, that which is due me, when I go to be with Him for ever. That is all the reward that I need. That is the promise that I have from Him, and it is in writing, insured by His blood. That's good enough for me.

What kind of worker do you choose to be?
