I DON'T MEAN TO BOTHER YOU "

One day as I was making my rounds I was traveling on Hwy 80 and I came upon a
hitchhiker at the side of the road. In most cases I find it very hard to pass up someone
who is less fortunate than I, and in this case, someone who must walk where he wants to
go. After having stopped to pick him up, we proceeded down the road and talked about all
those things one talks about to a stranger.
Normally the people I stop to pick up have no idea what they are in for. They have no idea
that they will be riding with someone who loves the Lord and just can't seem to keep quiet
about Him. I don't start right off talking about Jesus, but somehow, the
conversation always ends up with Him. Such was the case here. I didn't feel led by the
Spirit to immediately witness but rather just to be friends with him. But as the
conversation progressed, the impression was very distinct, according to the works of
darkness that were visible in his actions and his speech, it was very clear to me that
this young man was headed in a direction most people would not want to go. I felt the deep
hurt for him and I realized what my responsibility was and I did
not hesitate to witness to him.
The amount of time we were traveling was only ten or fifteen minutes until we reached the
point where he was going in a different direction. But that was not the end of our
conversation and my chance to do the Lord's work. For about an additional half hour we sat
there parked as we discussed the Lord. He admitted to not being saved and not knowing
Jesus personally.
In trying to witness to him, the Lord was taking me through His Word in a similar fashion
but never the same route, and there was a point when a thought came into my mind to tell
him, but I couldn't remember the verse which was the scriptural substantiation for the
point I was trying to make. I told him I don't
remember the verse but the Lord says He'll bring it to my remembrance because He'll give
me the words to speak. So I asked the Lord
according to His promise, to reveal the verse to me. The Lord told me immediately, but in
my mind I said, " That can't be it!" and immediately I realized what I had
just done and asked Him for forgiveness. I went to the book, chapter, and verse He told
me, and sure enough it was it. I felt so stupid but the man with me knew none of what I
had just experienced other than what he heard with his ears and saw with his eyes.
If there is ever a time when you ask the Lord a question and you think He didn't answer
you, I suggest that you re-examine those moments. He
indeed did answer you whether you heard Him or not. Many times when He speaks we do
not hear Him. There are even many times when He is speaking and not saying an audible
word. I pray and hope you understood what was just said.
Now I know that I must pay closer attention when He is speaking, whether I am hearing
Him or not hearing Him.
The hitch-hiker was a witness to the fact that when I asked the Lord a question, I
immediately received an answer; which is meant to indicate that there was a purpose of God
in this lesson and now my question to you is --
Who could this lesson possibly have been for?
a. The hitch-hiker b. Myself c. You d. All of the above
