Esther was born in January 1985 in Essen in the Middle West of Germany (Ruhrgebiet). She is handicapped and constantly dependent on outside help. She is a cheerful and content child with a very unusual story.

Esther was born 10 weeks prematurely . The placenta separated too early. Mother and child had a high loss of blood, and both were in danger of dying. The doctors in the Essen Phillipus-Foundation had to perform an emergency Caesarian delivery. Esther was then taken into intensive care at the Essen Klinikum Children's Hospital. Through the apparent lack of oxygen and undeveloped capillaries, Esther had several hemohrrages in the brain. In order to survive a small valve had to be inserted inside her head, which drew the fluids from the inside of the brain through a catheter into the circulation device, because the natural flow of the blood had been closed. Shortly after the birth she got seizures in her brain, and the doctors gave her little hope for a normal life.

Esther had to have two brain surgeries in that period. Since then she has been paralyzed, moves spastically and is mentally handicapped.

Esther had to fight against death for about 3 months. Because of the premature birth her lungs were not yet fully formed and could not get sufficient oxygen to her blood. Esther had to be given artificial respiration with pure oxygen at a very high pressure. The doctors worried about, how long the lungs of the child could endure such pressure and the pure oxygen. Besides it was hard to say if that would damage Esther´s heart or if she would be blind or would die.

This ordeal lasted half a year with much hoping and confident praying, until Esther could be dismissed home to her parents.

Hope for Esther

However Esther´s parents are active Christians who believe in a living and almighty God. Immediately after the birth they shared with other Christians and began to entrust the child to God in their prayers. In his time of need in this situation Esther´s father phoned his pastor and asked the church to pray at their prayermeeting for her. The next morning he came into the intensive care, the doctor on duty could hardly hide his surprise. Esther´s oxygen level had clearly improved overnight. Although she still had to be given artificial respiration with oxygen, they were able to lower the respiration pressure considerably. Esther's life was no longer in immediate danger.

 Also because of the seizures in her brain the parents prayed to God and asked for help. Although the doctors attributed the seizures to scar tissue formed from the operations in the brain, the parents asked Jesus for deliverance and healing.

God is good! He answers by the Holy Spirit and promised, that he would set Esther completely free after a time of fighting the good fight and, as she grew up, he would also spontaneously and completely heal her. Esther herself will set her trust on God and will be healed by her own belief. Esther sustained a few seizures, which continued for a long time, even with Diazepam, a sure medicine for the prevention of the spasms, couldn´t be stopped. However the attacks would suddenly cease and could n´t break through at all, if the victory of Jesus at the cross over the darkness was proclaimed over Esther and she was set free. Soon Esther had no more seizures, but the doctors still detected discharges in the EEG. She was given more medicines.

In the time that followed God also answered the strengthened common prayer of her parents and their friends and Esther began to make small, but clear progress. Once the severly twisted legs and arms relaxed fully for a few weeks. Then Esther learned to speak whole sentences . . . This has continued and today God is still doing his work with her.

Future

Esther now is 15 years old. Her heart is in good order and she didn´t go blind. She speaks whole sentences and can squeeze out clearly her needs; however,her language sounds broken, and people who don't know her needs some patience  to understand. Her Parents and all friends who pray for her are waiting for her complete healing. Despite all small progress, Esther cannot sit or run yet. The left side of her body is badly affected by the spastic paralysis, along with the spine and hips .  Also she is still mentally handicapped. But God has promised her a perfect and spontaneous healing! Esther already understands, that Jesus loves her very much. In the spring 2 years ago  she asked Him to come into her heart and she has a very close relationship with her heavenly Father. The Holy Spirit is living inside her heart. So God has done the greatest work already. Esther is a Child of God.

Hi, my name is Wolfgang Hilger. I´m 47 years old and Esther is my daughter. My wife and I have 2 other children. I want to talk to you about some special things.

You have read about Esther and her problems - and about her hope. Most people are touched in their heart when they hear about this. I hope this story will move in your heart for a while. Why?

All the good things Esther has experienced and that will happen to her in future are coming from the Almighty God who created earth and heaven. He loves all people. Thats the reason He made them. He loves you too! Therefore Jesus said to the Father when men went away from God: “Father I´ll carry the burden and I´ll die to pay their guilt. So they can live.” Now you and I can not only be just a creation but Children of God. And because Jesus died for all men we have the opportunity for what God planned for mankind: A Life forever with God and the possibilities in a close relationship with Him. Jesus said: I came that you can have real life - more life than you need or imagine.

I encourage you to call out for God. It´s so important. You are missing to much in this life – and after this time your life in eternity. You can know him personally. The best way to meet him is to read the Bibel. You can see there who he is. Read the Gospel of John. He was the best friend of Jesus and knew him very intimately.
